HERE'S THE WORK: APRIL 2019

This is what parity looks like, everyone. It’s as good as spring itself!

This year, the Tribeca Film Festival’s competition sections consisted of 50% women-directed/co-directed films. This number is up from an already impressive 44% in 2018. There’s more to celebrate – 29% of the feature films included were directed by people of color, and 13% by directors identifying as LGBTQIA+.

Welcome to another edition of Here’s The Work, full of new work from the women directors in our database!

In this month’s newsletter, we’ll be shining a spotlight on the women in our database whose films were included in the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival, which ran in New York City April 24-May 5. An impressive number of Free The Bid directors made it into this year’s prestigious lineup, and we couldn’t be more proud.

This newsletter represents a curated selection of the commercials, branded content, short films, and music videos that were directed by the talented directors in Free The Bid’s global database and released this month!

As always, don’t forget that the filmmakers on our database have also been hard at work on feature films, documentaries, episodic TV, webseries, innovation projects, and even more!

Bear in mind, too, that while this list showcases the work of Free The Bid directors, our site also is a one-stop shop for discovering editors, colorists, composers and DOPs. A commitment to freeing the bid doesn’t just stop at hiring a woman director – enrich your crews with women across production roles!

TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL

Congratulations to all of the women directors who were included in this year’s Tribeca Film Festival!

Particular congratulations are in order for directors B. Monét and Haley Elizabeth Anderson, whose Queen Collective shorts, created as part of partnership between Queen Latifah and Free The Bid supporter Marc Pritchard (Chief Brand Officer, P&G), were screened during a Tribeca event. The two directors participated in a conversation with filmmaker Dee Rees and Queen Latifah herself, and their short films are now available to view on Hulu.

As a bonus for those who attended the festival, did you catch our Executive Director Emma Reeves, moderating a panel, “What’s Next For Women In Branded Entertainment,” at Tribeca X?
