Sofia Garza-Barba is a director from Monterrey Mexico, but now a permanent resident of the United States. A dreamer and storyteller from a very young age, she spun tales of magical worlds throughout her childhood. Sofia’s unique sensibilities in film were further refined at Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California, and in screenwriting at the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles.
After directing a music video for a the Grammy Award winner Kinky as her thesis project at Brooks Institute, she attracted and worked with some of the biggest band names in Latin American music.
Although Sofia still enjoys directing and producing music videos, she is currently focusing and exploring commercials, TV and film. Her work is magical, whimsical, yet with hints of mystery or darkness.
Sofia’s work has been shown on festivals like Malibu International Film Festival, Festival de Cannes, San Diego Film Festival, LaFemme Film Festival, Pantalla de Cristal, Morbido and others. She has won several awards for her work and direction.
Sofia has a BA in film and video production from Brooks Institute of Photography, a Masters in multimedia production from CEI Madrid, and a certificate in Screenwriting from NYFA.
She currently works both in the United States and Mexico and is making her way to directing her first feature film in the near future.
