Pilar Zapata is a Colombian Film Director based in Mexico City, since 2014.
Always passionate for storytelling, filmmaking and many other performing arts, she pursued her film career through advertising tv spots and music videos, after graduating from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota with a Communications degree.
Pilar gained great experience as an assistant director, working for many Colombian film directors. Then she got in the game as a director. On her debut year, her work landed on the nominations and won the award Best New Directors and New Talent, at EL OJO DE IBEROAMERICA. In 2009, she founded her own film company named Chiquita Films.
In 2013, Pilar has directed the branded content webserie Adulto Contemporaneo, it got a lot of publicity and attention for national and international media. As a result, the Mexican production company Rojo Films offers her an exclusivity agreement to work for the Mexican advertising market. She accepted and moved to Mexico.
Her passion for human beings and emotions has building her career learning different directing actors techniques and trainings at Nueva York, México, Colombia and Cuba. She was a pupil of director Abbas Kiarostami, of writer-director Guillermo Arriaga, Walter Ripple, Marketa Kimbell and Luis Mandoki.
Nowadays, Pilar is in pre-production of her first feature film “Tres dos uno dos tres”. She works for different production companies; Proyectil at the Colombian Market, AVP at Hong Kong, MediaMonks, Whiskey Films for Latin America and USA Hispanic market, and she is part of the creative directors of Wild Horses Story.
