Kate’s aim as a director is to unearth gutsy female led stories that represent the under-represented and deal sensitively with home truths.
Kate passion for topics relating to gender saw her conceptual dance film, ‘Unboxing’, 2017 be commissioned by Nowness. Unboxing explores gender energetically as non-binary and free from social labels. In 2018 Unboxing was screened at Aesthetica Short Film Festival and San Francisco Dance Film Festival. Kate champions female crews getting close to 100% on the set ‘Bushi’ a commercial shot in Tokyo for Dita Eyewear. Kate’s other films have been commissioned by Channel 4, The British Fashion Council, Vogue Film and The Barbican Arts.
Kate is currently in post-production for her first short film, ‘Vert’, a transgender coming-out story set half in virtual reality. And Kate is in pre-production for her second short film in partnership the Lush Film Fund and Girls in Film, GIF. It’s deals with self-harm in teenage girls and how breaking the silence around this taboo topic can lead to healing.
