Photojournalist and filmmaker Ella Rubeli began her career as a journalist before specializing in documentary filmmaking. Three-time young Australian photojournalist of the year, Ella has directed visual journalism projects and short documentaries in Australia and abroad, on a range of subjects, from the secession of South Sudan, to tuberculosis in Papua New Guinea, to climate change relocation in Fiji.

In 2014 Ella did post-graduate studies in documentary directing, in 2015 and 2016 her short documentary films were screened at four international film festivals in the USA. 

Interested in pushing the boundaries of the medium, Ella’s current work straddles documentary photography, documentary film and interactive storytelling. Her latest project, ‘K’gari: The Real Story of a True Fake‘ was selected for IDFA and SXSW.
