Dea Kulumbegashvili
Dea Kulumbegashvili was born and raised in Georgia. She studied Media Studies at The New School in New York, earned an MFA in Film Directing at Columbia University School of the Arts and is currently working towards PHD degree in Critical Thought and Philosophy at The European Graduate School.
Her debut short film “Invisible Spaces” was nominated for Palme D’Or at the Cannes International Film Festival in 2014. Her second short film “Lethe” has premiered in Director’s Fortnight program at Cannes International Film Festival in 2016. Lethe and Invisible Spaces has played at MoMA, NY and numerous film festivals around the world including IFF Rotterdam, Guanajato Film Festival, Zagreb Film Festival, Thessaloniki Film Festival etc.
In 2015, Dea co-wrote and co – produced “City of the Sun” – a feature film by Rati Oneli. It premiered at 67’ Berlinale Forum and won Best Documentary Film at Sarajevo Film Festival, FIPRESCI prize, and awards at DocumentaMadrid, ZagrebDox, MiradasDoc and Sheffield.
Dea is currently developing her first feature film “Naked Sky”. She participated in Cannes’ Film Festival Cinefondation residence in Paris, The Jerusalem Sam Spiegel Film Lab, Sofia Meetings (SIFF), CineMart (IFFR) and CineLink (Sarajevo Film Festival) with the project.
