Anthea is best know for storytelling, performance, dialogue, visual, fashion and beauty.
A constant figure in the ever-evolving advertising cosmos, and highly awarded director, Anthea Benton has carved a consistently creative image-making niche which has spanned over two decades. After studying fashion and photography, she began her film making career in music videos with her, then, partner, Vaughan. At the time, there were no directors who came from any kind of modernist photographic or fashion background, and certainly no directing duos and, in those early days, no female directors. Collaborating with bands and artists who embraced her inventive and eclectic style, she helped define the MTV era of creativity, indeed there are not many videos shot today that don’t carry a bit of her DNA. The move to commercials was fueled by a desire to work with actors and dialogue.
The breakthrough film was Wrangler ‘DJ’, the very first TV commercial to feature a spoken word rapper and entirely African American cast. This spawned a raft of groundbreaking campaigns for Levi’s, Stella Artois, BT, Adidas & Ikea. She went on to pursue her solo career globally, with campaigns for Barclaycard, Audi, Lee, Ford, Citroen, Renault, Sony, McDonald’s, Hyundai, Isklar, Vosaluer, Nissan, Pilsner, Target , Durex Play, House of Fraser, Special K, L’Oreal, Pantene, Sassoon, John Frieda, Olay, Sunsilk, Rexona, Zendium & Dove.
