Following a career in show-jumping, Ali graduated in 2001 from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California with honors in Advertising. Ali then worked for 11 years in advertising, participating on international juries. Her work has been recognised by the Cannes Festival of Advertising, MTV, the Emmys and more.
She began her filmmaking career with I Voted Today, winning Best Documentary at the Portobello film festival. Her first feature doc, Muerte es Vida, has gone on to have a successful festival life – premiering at Thessaloniki Documentary Festival, winning at the International Wildlife Festival and counts Danny Boyle as a fan. He said this of her first feature: “Few films could connect the world of a humble farmer in Mexico and the harsh world of a detective at Ground Zero, but this one manages to do it with honesty and a dash of poetry.”
