Alexandra Stergiou

Alexandra is a director and artist based in NYC. She was born and raised in Queens. Her work has showcased at festivals and venues around the U.S. and internationally. She has been recognized by the Wasserman Awards, National Board of Review, and the British Council.

She studied filmmaking at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and began her career at Vice. She ran a filmmaking workshop for refugees in Greece in conjunction with an NGO supported by the European Commission and Stavros Niarchos Foundation. Her commercial credits as a director and cinematographer include John Frieda, Maybelline, Cole Haan, Refinery29, and This American Life.

She recently completed The Candidates, a feature documentary she directed and produced. The film is about the wonderfully diverse students of a Queens public high school staging an elaborate mock presidential election, simulating the American electoral process against the backdrop of the real one. The film is premiering at DOC NYC.

She is currently in development on a film for ITVS about subsistence hunting in Alaska, a project which has also received support from TFI.
