Sophie first started writing music seriously after writing Red Shoes at 17 for the Endymion Ensemble, which led to a concert performance and release of music with NMC records. She quickly began a residency composing music for the Roundhouse Music Collective and Roundhouse Jazz Ensemble, with performances on Sky Arts for Frank Zappa’s 70th Birthday celebration, and with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. After being accepted as one of three composition students at the Royal Northern College of Music, Sophie had the opportunity to work with the Halle Orchestra, BBC Singers and Northern Ballet.
Her music for film includes clients such as Fox Searchlight, Parabella Studios, Marcus Markou, Moth To Flame, Finelight Films and Lea Dettli. She has worked on advert music for campaigns for Valentino, Parabella Animation and Camira Fabrics. Sophie’s theatre music has been performed in the Jerwood Studios and The Gatehouse and she is currently engaged to write the music for two plays by Offie nominated theatre company Tramp, including a new play by Philip Ridley.
Sophie grew up in the world of dance, and is currently writing her first ballet, as well as updating her father’s ballet music for the contemporary piece Ghost Dances. She is set to compose the score for the feature film, Charlie, Safe Home, and is continuing to collaborate with Marcus Markou after the festival success of the film, Two Strangers Who Meet Five Times.
