Freya Berkhout is a Sydney-born multi-award winning composer and creative technologist based in London. Her music explores the relationship between electronic and organic sounds, delving into the breadth of human emotion using soundscapes, musique concrete and notably, the voice.
Freya has a Bachelor of Arts in Asian Studies from Sydney University, and whilst doing her undergraduate degree, founded her first professional music endeavour, experimental pop duo kyü, with Alyx Dennison. kyü released two albums to critical acclaim, winning a slew of awards, including Sydney University Band Competition, the Hopetoun/Studios 301 Homebake Incentive and the prestigious Qantas Spirit of Youth Award for Music in 2010.
In 2013, Freya completed a Graduate Diploma in Screen Music at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School, receiving the Kenneth B Myer Award for Exceptional Talent. She has been awarded funding from the Australia Council for the Arts and holds an Exceptional Talent Artist Visa in the UK. She recently began her second year of BFI Network x BAFTA Crew 2018. Her film music has screened around the world at Academy Awards®-qualifying Cannes Film Festival (FR), Heartland Film Festival (US), Warsaw International Film Festival (Pol) and Sydney Film Festival (Aus).
