Trained in both Western and Indian classical music, multi-instrumentalist Amritha Vaz has composed music for feature film, television, games, webseries and chamber ensembles. After working in Canada, she moved to Los Angeles where she began working with Oscar and Grammy award winning composer, Mychael Danna. Her work with Mychael spanned 11 feature films and two television shows, including the Oscar nominated score for “The Imaginarium Of Dr. Parnassus”; Marc Webb’s Spirit award-winning, “500 Days Of Summer”; Cannes award winner, “Adoration” and Joss Whedon’s TV show, “Dollhouse”. During that time she also co-wrote scores with Mychael for Palestinian filmmaker, Najwa Najjar’s Doha Tribeca award-winning, “Pomegranates And Myrrh” and Dilip Mehta’s, “Cooking With Stella”.
In 2016, Amritha was selected to participate in the highly prestigious Sundance Composers Labs, and a year later, she was selected to join LA’s visionary Echo Society in an experimental 3-day art installation. She now works out of her own studio and has scored award winning documentary features like “Made In India” (PBS), “Little Stones” and “Music for Mandela” (which she was nominated for a Leo Award for Best Musical Score) and narrative features such as “Miss India America”.
