Based at Ludus Post Productions, Michele Wilson boasts a stunning reel of work. While mastering Video Technology at the Natal Technikon, it was here that she learned about light and shadow, what she calls “colour science.”
Michele received specialist colour training by Kevin Shaw of Da Vinci Systems, the leading international film & digital cinema company at their headquarters in Fort Lauderdale.
Her grading talents were recognised by Condor Post Productions, who snapped her up for their Amsterdam facility. It was here, in the European Union that Michele earned her stripes. The Netherlands was her base, but she flew across the continent to facilities in London, Berlin and Brussels to colour.
Michele was offered a job back in South Africa at a top commercial company. Where she worked with many of South Africa’s best directors.
While being a colourist at heart, Michele’s clear understanding of business had her looking at new ways for post-production and colouring to remain relevant within an industry in flux. Enter Ludus Post Productions, a short form facility specializing in TVCs. Michele is a major shareholder, heading up the grading department for both Cape Town and Johannesburg.
Michele’s company ranked best post-production facility in Africa and the Middle-East at The Loeries Awards. She coloured the Cannes Gold and Silver award winning campaign ‘Breaking Ballet’ for TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris and Darling Films. Michele’s work has also seen her company rank top post-production facility in the iDidTht.com Craft Awards.
Says Michele, “industry players need to pull together and unite with like-minded people re-imagining how their creative services fit a new way of working.” She hopes to see more female directors choosing to grade with female colourists, seriously taking the remarkable initiative of Free-The-Bid through from shoot to stations.
