Jessica Barclay Lawton is an award-winning director with Truce Films.
Her work across advertising has been for clients such as Telstra, Australia Post, Master Builders Association of Victoria CSIRO, Cotton On and Kirin Beer.
Her move to the world of content and commercials comes on the back of recent narrative successes, including the critically-acclaimed Screen Australia supported web-series “Movement” which featured at Tribeca Film Festival.
Lawton established herself as an up-and-coming talent with her short film “Morning Star”, which premiered at the 63rd Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland and continued on to screen at over 30 festivals worldwide, winning ‘Best Film’ and ‘Best Director’ at the 2011 Malta International Short Film Festival, a Gold ACS Award, and the 2010 National Kodak Film School Competition.
In 2013 Jessica co-founded filmmaker collective Jerry Projects with Rhys Mitchell. Their seminal short film, “We Keep On Dancing”, was nominated for the ‘Grand Jury Prize’ at Slamdance Film Festival, the ‘Grand Prix International Prize’ at Cork Film Festival, and awarded ‘Best Live Action (Under 15’)’ at Palm Springs International Shortfest. Jerry Projects’ follow up short film “Building Bridges” had its world premiere at the 2014 Melbourne International Film Festival, where Jessica was invited to participate in the MIFF Accelerator program.
Most recently, Lawton has turned her attention to TV drama, assisting Director Larysa Kondracki (The Walking Dead, Rogue, Better Call Saul) on the Foxtel mini series, “Picnic At Hanging Rock”, while she is currently completing a Film Victoria funded Director’s Attachment with Geoffrey Wright (Romper Stomper, Macbeth, Metal Skin) on the Stan mini series, “Romper Stomper”.
