Billie began her career studying Photography and English at the College of Fine Arts and the University of NSW. Always interested in narrative, Billie’s photos of constructed images, capturing a story within one frame, won her the Photomedia Graduating Student Award. This focus on visual story grew into a unique visual style, which encapsulates her work.
Baby Baby, funded by the Screen NSW Emerging Filmmaker Fund, won the 2014 Australian Writer’s Guild Award (AWGIE) for Best Short Film and Best Cinematography at the St Kilda Film Festival. It had it’s Australian premiere at the Melbourne International Film Festival and was selected to screen as the Flickerfest Opening Night film.
Billie was mentored by award winning commercial and drama director Garth Davis (Lion, Top of the Lake) for FYSH, funded by the Screen Australia Hot Shots initiative. FYSH premiered in 2017 In Competition at the BFI London International Film Festival and had it’s hometown premiere at Melbourne International Film Festival and continues to screen at festivals nationally and internationally.
